    • What is NTSE?

      National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a national-level scholarship program in India to identify and recognize students with high intellect and academic talent. 5,00,000 students appear for this scholarship exam every year Only 1000 scholarships are awarded, out of which 775 are unreserved The scholarships are awarded to candidates for pursuing courses in sciences and social sciences up to doctoral level and professional courses up to second-degree level Scholarship of Rs. 1250 per month is awarded for class XI to XII. Scholarship of Rs. 2000 per month is awarded for Undergraduates and Postgraduates. The scholarship amount is fixed in accordance with the UGC norms for Ph.D. SELECTION PROCEDURE :- Identification of talent comprises two-stage selection process. While the individual State/UT conducts the first stage selection, the second stage selection at the national level is carried out by the NCERT. Eligibility All students studying in Class X in any type of recognized school including Kendriya Vidyalaya, Navodaya Vidyalaya, and Sainik School etc. will be eligible to appear at the State Level Examination from the State in which the school is located. However, no domicile restriction shall be imposed. The state may impose any other eligibility condition for appearing in the screening examination like any qualifying percentage of marks in the previous annual examination etc. Students registered under Open and Distance Learning (ODL) are also eligible 7 for scholarship provided the students are below the age of 18 years (as on 1st July of that particular year) the students is not employed and they are appearing in class X for the first time. How to apply The students studying in Class X in the country ought to be on the lookout for any advertisement in the newspapers or circulars in the school by the respective Government of their State/UT for the above said examination and act as per the requirement given in the State advertisement/circular. Any other information/query about the details of the state level examination may be had from Liaison Officers of the State/UT agencies, the addresses of which are given in the Appendix. The filled in application by the student be submitted to the State Liaison Officer duly signed by the Principal of the school before the due date as advertised/circulated by each concerned State/UT Examination State level examination may have two parts: Part-I Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Part-II Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) for nominating the required number of candidates for the second level test to be conducted by the NCERT. Both the tests will be administered on the same day Mental Ability Test There shall be 100 multiple-choice type items, with four alternatives. Each item will carry one mark. Candidates are required to answer the items on a separate OMR sheet as per instructions given in the test booklet and on the OMR sheet. Scholastic Aptitude Test The scholastic Aptitude Test will consist of 100 multiple-choice items of one mark each. Each item shall have four alternatives, out of which only one will be the correct answer. There shall be 40 items from Science, 40 from Social Science and 20 from Mathematics, Candidates are required to answer the items on a separate OMR sheet to be provided at the examination centre as per instructions. Important Note: Students are allowed to take away question booklets of both the tests (Mental Ability Test and Scholastic Aptitude Test) after the examination. Venue, Date and Time of the Test The admission letter shall have all the information about the venue, the roll number, the date and time of the test. Candidates can download their E-Admit cards themselves before 21 days of examination. Marking Each item in both the tests shall carry one mark each. A candidate shall get one mark for correct response. There will be no negative marking in either of the tests. Nevertheless, candidates are advised not to resort to blind guessing, which may not be of any help to them. Processing of Result The scoring of the OMR-sheets for both the MAT and the SAT shall be done through the computer. All possible precautions are taken and necessary checks applied while processing the result to ensure zero error results. Declaration of Result The final award shall be declared on the basis of combined scores of MAT and SAT. Only the selected candidates shall be informed by registered letter and through NCERT website www.ncert.nic.in. Marks obtained by the candidates in written examination will be revealed to all the candidates individually through NCERT website. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test for Lateral Admission to Class IX

1.0 INTRODUCTION
In accordance with the National Policy of Education (1986), Government of India started Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) all over the country except Tamil Nadu. These Vidyalayas are co-educational, residential in nature which are fully financed by Government of India and run by an autonomous organization, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti under the Ministry of Human Resource Development.  Though admission to these Vidyalayas is at Class VI level, but in order to make optimum use of infrastructure facilities available in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, the vacant seats at Class IX level are also proposed to be filled up through a Selection Test.  While education in these Vidyalayas is free with the board, lodging, uniforms and textbooks upto Class-VIII, a nominal fee of Rs.200/- per month is collected from the children from IX to XII Class.  However, children belonging to SC/ST, Girls and those from the families of below poverty line, are exempted from payment of fees
ADMISSION TO CLASS IX AGAINST VACANT SEATS
In view of the need for optimum utilization of the infrastructure and facilities available in the Vidyalayas, it has been decided by the Samiti to fill up the vacant seats in IX class through an All India level Selection Test.  The district-wise vacant seats in the Vidyalayas have been separately notified in the local newspapers.
2.0 HOW TO APPLY FOR JAWAHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA SELECTION TEST FOR ADMISSION IN CLASS IX
Vidyalaya wise vacant seats in class IX have already been notified.  The eligible candidates may apply for their admission to class IX in the prescribed application form, which is attached with this Prospectus, and can be obtained free of cost from the office of the Principal of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya of the concerned district.  The Application Form can also be downloaded from the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti website, http://www. navodaya.nic.in
3.0  HOW TO SUBMIT THE APPLICATION FORM
Application Form duly completed in all respect must reach the office of the Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya of the concerned district on or before last date through registered post A/D.  If the candidate prefers to submit Application Form in person, he/she is required to get the acknowledgement receipt from the office of the Principal of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.
4.0 RESULT OF SELECTION TEST
Result of the Selection Test will be notified on the Vidyalaya Notice Board as well as published in selected local newspapers. Selected candidates will also be intimated by post.
5.0 RESERVATION
The existing vacant seats in the SC/ST category are reserved for the SC/ST students as notified by the Regional Office/concerned Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.
6.0 SELECTION AND ADMISSION
§ Mere qualifying in the selection test will not vest any right to secure admission in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya till the candidate produces all the relevant documents such as date of birth certificate, pass certificate of class VIII with mark sheet, SC/ST certificate etc. as prescribed by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.
§ Details of the marks obtained in the test  will not be  communicated and there is no provision for their re-checking/re-totalingetc.
Candidates will be considered for the admission only for that Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya for which he/she has appeared for the Selection Test.
